The Omni-Theatre is Singapore's only IMAX dome theatre. At around 5 stories in height, it is also Asia's largest dome screen. The Omni-Theatre screens educational films, spanning genres in science, nature, space, animals, marine life, culture, history, natural disasters and more.

Films at the Omni-Theatre are screened on a rotational basis, with 1 film every hour. There is a maximum of up to 3 different films available at any 1 time. When I visited the Omni-Theatre, the films available were Journey Into Amazing Caves, Coral Reef Adventure and Arabia.

I decided to catch Arabia, as I was intrigued by promotional images of the Hajj, the most important Muslim pilgrimage. The film was a truely immersive experience.
The scenes of the desert sands were breath taking, and you almost felt like you were there, flying over the arid desert and deep canyons. Or swimming amongst the coral reefs of the Red Sea... Or standing amidst the crowds in Mecca, at the Al-Masjid Al-Haram (Grand Mosque / Sacred Mosque).
The few CGI scenes however, were just average, nothing like the photo-realistic CGI of Hollywood.

Fittingly, the Omni-Theatre also features a Space Science exhibition on the second level, and a Observatory for stargazing. A free stargazing session for the public is held every Friday, 7.50pm - 10pm. Be sure to try out the different telescopes!
The Linkway exhibit traces the formation of the universe, and the pre-history of earth.

If you're planning a visit, note that admission is free, although individual shows will cost SGD $10, and allocate around 1 to 3 hours for viewing.
