The original chain that started the craze / fad for coffee flavoured buns, Rotiboy once experienced long queues outside its outlets in Singapore during the height of its popularity. Sadly, with numerous neighbourhood bakeries imitating its recipes, Rotiboy saw a decline in fortunes after the craze / fad passed, and is now defunct in Singapore.

Fortunately, Rotiboy is still going strong in other countries, including its birth place of Penang Island, Malaysia. I came across a Rotiboy outlet in Gurney Plaza during a recent trip to Penang, and the range of items on the menu is much wider than it ever was in Singapore. While Rotiboy Singapore only sold the signature Rotiboy Original Coffee Bun, Rotiboy Malaysia also has other signature buns including the Buttermilkboy, the Blueberry Cheeseboy, the Mochaboy. Beyond this, Rotiboy Malaysia also sells cakes, pastries, sandwiches and cookies.

The Rotiboy Original Coffee Bun is still as tasty as ever... A crisp, coffee flavoured outer shell, that shatters when bit, encases a soft, fluffy and buttery interior. Hot and fresh from the oven, the Rotiboy Original Coffee Bun is simple, but very addictive!

I'll definitely seek out Rotiboy the next time I travel!
