Choon Ming Bao Dian is a heartland dim sum and chinese bun (Bao) stall that is best known for its affordable and tasty dim sum. What not many people know is that Choon Ming Bao Dian has a central kitchen and headquarters which hand makes all the dim sum, and at the same time, also serves decent Zi Char dishes. What even fewer know is that the lady boss, Sarah, takes care of orphans and under-privileged young parents by employing them to work in her kitchens, while providing them housing just above the stall.

The central kitchen and Zi Char headquarters of Choon Ming Bao Dian has a very unassuming and plain exterior, with only brightly lit signboards displaying their dishes. No fresh seafood in sight, even though all the seafood they use is very fresh. Furniture is functional, but with a rather cramped layout... You'll be seating back to back with the next table! Choon Ming Bao Dian can probably only take up to 30 diners with their small floor space.

Service at Choon Ming Bao Dian is almost home style, with the family members and wards of the boss pitching in to help out. They're friendly, though not as efficient as a well-oiled restaurant would be.

Food at Choon Ming Bao Dian is decent, with slightly above average quality and good taste. While the food does take some time to prepare, it's well portioned, satisfying and quite affordable.

Just above this shop is where the orphans and less-privileged young parents live. Lady boss Sarah helps them make a living by employing some of them in her kitchens, while providing education to the others. Dim sum is made in this central kitchen, then shipped out to all parts of the island.

The French Beans With Dried Shrimp I didn't quite like, as it was cooked till dry. But the shrimp did add a salty tang to the dish.

The Fried Chicken With Salted Egg Yolk is quite good, as the salted egg yolk adds a nice burst of flavour. The meat isn't too dry, but isn't juicy either. Decent dish.

The Braised Beancurd With Minced Meat Gravy has a salty, savoury and very tasty minced meat gravy. The beancurd is soft, and cooked well. Nice.

I thought the best dish was the Crab Meat Fried Rice, with fresh chunks of deshelled crab meat covering the rice. The dish is light and flavourful, and the flavour of the fried rice doesn't overpower the delicate crab meat. Cheap too, this dish only cost SGD $8! I would highly recommend trying this!

The have among the best renditions of Prawn Paste Chicken Wings I've tried, with crispy skin and juicy meat within.
