Marriott City Wall Hotel

Introduction
Located about 40 - 70 minutes drive from Beijing Capital International airport, Marriott City Wall Hotel / Beijing Marriott City Wall Hotel in China has gracious service, well maintained amenities and sophisticated elegance worthy of a 5-star hotel in the Marriott brand. Despite the poor location, as there aren't many attractions nearby, Marriott City Wall Hotel overcomes this by being located close to the main Beijing Railway Station, as well as several small convenience stores and a hospital.

Ambience
Ambience within Marriott City Wall Hotel is sophisticated, with touches of Chinese elements and decor. However, the actual lobby is rather small and uninviting. Marriott City Wall Hotel is also rather dimly lit, with bright lights focusing only on highlights such as decor. The ambience also tends to drop off in the shared office tower lobby, with nearly nothing of interest there.

Room
I stayed in the Twin King Room of Marriott City Wall Hotel. The room was sufficiently large and comfortable, though the dirty windows obstructed a pretty good view. I like that there is plenty of available table space to place stuff, and the work desk comes with a multi-purpose panel of plugs. There is also a bathtub and a shower in the bathroom. The wardrobe is a nice size, and several conveniences are provided such as shoe brushes and hair dryer. However, the selection of Cable TV channels is rather limited.

Food
Food at Marriott City Wall Hotel is mainly from the City Wall Bistro, where most diners eat. The buffet breakfast has a nice range, but is the same everyday. Furthermore, the majority of food I tried was rather bland. Lunch and dinner fared much better, with an equally wide range, but with a rotating menu everyday, and the taste of the food was also much better. Pearl Restaurant has pretty good Chinese food, although it can be slightly more expensive. Pity that Marriott City Wall Hotel doesn't actually have much options of local Beijing food.

Service
Service at Marriott City Wall Hotel is decent and gracious. Staff are able to converse in decent English, especially the reception and restaurant staff, although the bell hops can't. Most staff are friendly and polite, and able to carry out requests efficiently. Service during business meetings is excellent, and I would recommend Marriott City Wall Hotel as a venue for business functions or conventions.

Facilities & Activities
The facilities at Marriott City Wall Hotel are well maintained and rather extensive. The gymnasium and swimming pool are among the largest I've seen in a hotel, and the Quan Spa has a good range of health and beauty treatments. However, Marriott City Wall Hotel is located relatively far from nearby shopping centres or tourist attractions. Fortunately, the main Beijing Railway Station is a short 10 minutes walk away.
