Founded in August 2014, the young entrepreneur behind De'Pop Culture Cafe has created a cozy, yet vibrant space. Filled with quirky pop art, the bright and cheery cafe derives its name from their speciality, desserts, and their vibrant decor (Desserts + Pop Art = De'Pop Culture).

Ambience at De'Pop Culture Cafe pays tribute to popular culture. Pop art decor adorn the walls, such as stencils of comic strips like Dilbert and Calvin And Hobbes, a collage of pop culture quotes from iconic movie characters, and even Andy Warhol inspired posters.

Furniture is comfortable, albeit rather limited in their small floor space, but follows the pop art theme of bright colours and vibrant pictures. Owner Adeline is particularly proud of their hand painted toilet / washroom, which depicts an outdoor scene with clouds in the sky! Look out also for the small touches, such as cute animals around the power sockets!

Service at De'Pop Culture Cafe is provided by lady boss Adeline and her partner, with the only other staff present being the chef in the kitchen. They're friendly and engaging, more than willing to recommend items on the menu, being knowledgable on the makings of each dish.

Their enthusiasm is evident, they perform all the service tasks such as taking / serving orders, clearing dirty dishes, cleaning the store, welcoming customers at front of house, and more. Very commendable work ethic!

Food at De'Pop Culture Cafe includes mainly all day breakfast items, and a selection of desserts. In general, I find their all day breakfast dishes to be decent, with good taste, their strongest component being the scrambled eggs. De'Pop Culture Cafe is more well known for their variety of desserts, mostly American / Italian style desserts, most of which are delicious!

Portions sizes for their main dishes / all day breakfast items are large for 1 person, and are quite filling. Their desserts are also nicely sized, and are suitable for sharing. I find prices here to be reasonable, about the same as most other cafes, budget about SGD $25 or more per person for a meal here. Of particular note is their batter for frying, and their sauces used for dressing are all made in house.

The house special drinks are the Italian Sodas - Red Raspberry, Kiwi, Blue Raspberry, Passionfruit (SGD $4.90). The 4 flavours are all fruity and refreshing, excellent thirst quenchers, though the Blue Raspberry stand out for being unique!

What's surprising about the Bacon Surprise (SGD $10.90)? But the trio of bacon wrapped, toasted brioche bread, topped with sauteed mushrooms, scrambled eggs, and a sunny side up egg, is decent. In particular, the scrambled eggs stood out for being creamy and moist, with a hint of black pepper. I thought the sauteed mushrooms had a good earthy taste, but could have been softer, as the texture was more firm than I'm used to. The sunny side up egg was decent as well, completely done through with a cooked yolk.

A good rendition of Truffle Fries (SGD $7.90), with thick cut chips that have a nice, natural taste of potatoes. The truffle is earthy and fragrant, not too overpowering, and I like that the shavings of cheese is generous.

The huge portion of De'Pop Breakfast Platter For 2 (SGD $28.90) is served on a lazy susan, and is extremely filling! The heavenly creamy scrambled eggs are present, along with perfectly grilled, meaty pork bratwurst sausages, crisp streaky bacon, warm baked beans, and toasted brioche bread. The garden salad was decent, but the highlight is the house made sesame sauce drizzled over it, tangy, savoury, and slightly sweet all at once! The sauteed mushrooms were again, a little too firm for my liking, but the crisp hash brown / tater tots were very addictive!

The unique chef creation, Crab And The Dog (SGD $15.90), features thick meaty, juicy, Italian pork sausage, in a buttered, toasted American hot dog bun, with Singapore style spicy chili crab sambal sauce drizzled over the top. This fusion dish is an explosion of savoury, spicy flavour, hitting all the right notes of taste. Memorable, highly recommended!

Heard good things about the Black Pepper Crab Spaghetti (SGD $14.90), and the presentation didn't disappoint! With a generous topping of crab meat and spicy black pepper, it tasted similar to a Chinese Zi Char black pepper crab! But our main problem with this dish was balance of taste, it's too salty, and the black pepper so overpowering that you barely taste the crab meat. Need some tweaking to get it right.

I think the Waffles Caramel (SGD $11.50) was the best dessert I had here! The texture of the waffle is perfect, crisp outside, fluffy and soft inside, warm, with a delicious taste of the buttermilk batter. So good you can eat it by itself! But the addition of sweet caramel sauce, crunchy granola bits, and a smooth salted caramel ice cream, made this a winner. So addictive you can't stop! Highly recommended!

The French Toast Feat. Banana-tella (SGD $11.90) was interesting. Thick toast, drizzled with sweet caramel sauce, and topped with warm caramelised bananas, served with a side of nutella. The combination of flavour is fantastic, pity about the toast though, because some parts are rather dry.

The Raspberry Panna Cotta (SGD $6.90) features a glaze of raspberry sauce mixed with red wine, giving it a unique sweet, sour, and tart flavour. The actual panna cotta has a tasty, milky flavour, though the texture is slighlty soft, more liquid than it should be. The correct texture should be more firm, while still retaining the signature wobble. Still, it's a good dessert!

Loved the crumble of the Apple Crumble Pie With Ice Cream (SGD $7.90), crisp, crunchy, and slightly sweet. The layers of caramelised apple below are well packed, but I thought it could have been more generous. Also, the apple was slightly cold at the bottom, not sure if it's meant to be served like this, or if it got cold from sitting out while we were taking photos. But I would have preferred a warmer dessert.

Overall, De'Pop Culture Cafe is a cozy, quirky, playful cafe for great tasting desserts and a decent all day breakfast menu. Their mid-range pricing with large portions are good value for money, and it's always good to see young entrepreneurs starting out. De'Pop Culture should be accessible enough for all ages!
