Opened by Ms Jeannette Kwok in December 2015, Wanna Cuppa is a 1920s Gatsby inspired glamour cafe. They offer classic, simple, affordable Western main courses with an Asian influence, alongside a range of delectable desserts, and coffee sourced from Melbourne, Australia. We were returning after our last visit 2 years ago, to sample their new dishes.

The ambience at Wanna Cuppa remains eclectic and eye-catching, yet still tastefully luxurious and comfortable, well suited for lingering meals. The service at Wanna Cuppa is still friendly and casual, retaining the good engagement of before. The food at Wanna Cuppa remains focused on Western style dishes with some Asian flavours, though they've expanded the menu to include more variety of main courses. Portions remain sized for individuals, and prices are still affordable, comparable to most other cafes. Budget about SGD $21 for a decent meal here.

The Zesty Seafood Salad (SGD $16.90) is a delightful, fresh bowl of wild rocket leaves / arugula, cherry tomatoes, onions, grapefruit, olives, grilled squid / calamari rings, and grilled deshelled prawns / shrimp. Notes of zesty tangy sweet sour bitter savoury salty earthy smoky flavours. Everything works together beautifully, yet you still can taste each component distinctly. Highly recommended!

The Grilled Ebi Miso Spaghetti (SGD $17.90) has soft spaghetti pasta noodles, garnished with smoky sweet grilled brussels sprouts, smoky savoury grilled deshelled prawns / shrimp, and strips of crisp earthy vegetal seaweed. I love the bold, robust flavours of this dish, incredibly tasty and addictive. Good!

The unique Enoki Mushroom Fries (SGD $11.90) are delicious, a good snack. Well-fried, not too oily, these mushrooms are satisfiying with a slight chew. These have changed from our last visit, they use larger enoki / golden mushrooms now, and the portion is slightly bigger. It's also less crispy than last time, because of the bigger sized mushrooms, though still tasty.

The Grilled Pork Chop (SGD $23.90) was decent, with the pork chop being nicely grilled, having taken on a smoky savoury sweet flavour, though the texture is more firm than I'd like. A side of crisp sweet potato fries accompany, but the unique component is their homemade salsa, a zesty tangy sour sweet spicy combination of green apples, mint, balsamic vinegar, and chili. Very refreshing, aids to cleanse the palate while providing a nice kick. If the pork chop was more tender, and more juicy, this would have been a great dish.

The Clams Vongole Spaghetti (SGD $20.90) has soft spaghetti pasta noodles, in a earthy sweet white wine broth, garnished with meaty sweet clams, coriander, and chili. This gives the dish a sweet savoury earthy spicy flavour, enticing you to go back for more. However, I would have preferred a more al-dente pasta.

The Seafarer's Seafood Platter (SGD $27.90) features an assortment of seafood. Served with a fresh mesclun salad, the battered fish has a nice crisp exterior, with a moist, tender flaky interior, and the fish meat having a delicate sweet savoury flavour. The grilled squid / calamari rings and grilled prawns / shrimp have a smoky sweet savoury flavour, with a plump, meaty texture. The clams are meaty and sweet, served in a delicious white wine broth. Great choice for the undecided, or those who want to sample a variety of items.

Overall, Wanna Cuppa impresses with its friendly service, inviting ambience, and affordable prices. Taste of their food isn't the best, being decent at best, but it's simple, straight-forward, and of acceptable quality. Great value for money too! Wanna Cuppa is worth visiting if you're nearby, and is suitable for everyday dining; or if you're on a tight budget; or if you just wish to escape for a little while to a comfortable, relaxing environment away from the hustle and bustle of the city.
