Tucked away behind Bugis Village, I Love Taimei specializes in Taiwanese Street Food. The quality of their food far outweighs any of the other snack shops located around the area, and I Love Taimei worth a visit if you're looking for a light snack, or a quick bite on the go.

Range of items on the Menu is pretty good... From common street food like Crispy Chicken, Calamari, Mee Sua and Pearl Milk Tea, to uncommon ones with a twist, like Lemon Crispy Chicken, Cheese Burger or White Pearl Milk Tea.

Try their seasoned fries (Shake Shake Fries), or the more uncommon Tofu Fries, it's value for money and also tasty.

Service is passable... Food arrives within 3 - 5 minutes. But you might have to wait a bit before ordering though, as they seem to have specific people assigned to take orders. So even if the rest of the staff is free, they won't take your order, or even interact with you, until the assigned order-taker is available. Personally, I don't think it's a big service problem, just slightly weird that they operate like this.

I Love Taimei provides those high stools and tables normally found in bars for seating just directly in front of their shop, which is also a great place to people watch, or wait. They also have a secluded seating area just behind their shop, which is especially great for dining in on rainy days.

Update Nov-2015: Since my last visit to them over 5 years ago, I Love Taimei has since grown to have several outlets across Singapore. Not too shabby for a fast food takeaway kiosk which was founded in October 2009 by 2 Taiwanese sisters. The ambience at I Love Taimei is still pretty much non-existent, service remains completely self-service, and food prices have largely remained about the same, albeit with slight increases.

The BBQ Crispy Chicken (SGD $4.90) still features that wonderfully savoury sweet barbecue sauce / glaze on the moist, juicy chicken, but I notice the batter may be slightly thicker than it was 5 years ago.

Update Jun-2019: It's been nearly 9 years, and I Love Taimei is still going strong, with many outlets across Singapore. They've managed to reinvent themselves to be remain relevant and appealing, with an expanded menu that manages to be trendy but not passe.

The 1988 Milk Tea (SGD $4.90) features a blend of wintermelon tea, milk tea, and butterfly pea flower infused black tea. Served with distinct colour bands of brown, beige, and sky blue, this has a fruity sweet earthy floral milky flavour. Nice, would drink this again.

The Northern Lights Fresh Tea (SGD $4.90) features a blend of mango juice, Sprite soft drink, butterfly pea flower infused black tea, and mango popz globules. Served with distinct colour bands of purple and yellow, this has a bold fizzy fruity sweet flavour. The name is a mismatch though, as the colours are unlike the real Northern Lights.
