Update Dec-2019: More than 6 years later, and Lady M Confections is still attracting crowds. They've done well enough to open several more outlets across Singapore, and people still flock here for their delicious signature mille crepe cakes.

Ambience at Lady M Confections still retains a minimalist elegance. The smooth, clean, marble white lines, along with large glass displays, exude a luxurious, sophisticated feel. This is completed with white elegant furnishings and cutlery, and bright natural light.

Service at Lady M Confections is now just decent, comparable to most cafes. Staff demonstrate good product knowledge and some interaction, and they clean up efficiently when diners leave. They're able to accommodate simple requests, but the experience isn't as memorable as before.

Food at Lady M Confections remains focused on desserts, made with French pastry techniques and Japanese etiquette of precision. The menu has expanded, and they now offer a decent variety of desserts and drinks, perfect for snacks, desserts, or high-tea. Portions are sized for individuals, but are best shared. Prices have increased slightly, budget about SGD $12 per person.

Loved the unique Creme De La Rose Coffee (SGD $7.50). This beverage has a coffee base, to which is added rose water and rose petals, giving the toasty aromatic coffee a light floral sweet flavour. Enticing and delicate, nice. Worth ordering!

A festive concoction, the Black Forest Chocolate (SGD $8) resembles the classic dessert cake, except in beverage form. A base of toasty rich hot chocolate is infused with cherry concentrate, topped with a milk espuma and chocolate shards. This has a lovely fruity sweet tart sour chocolatey flavour. Nicely drinkable, though I'd have liked it to be slightly richer and more full-bodied.

A layered tea is basically a blend of 2 different yet complementary tea flavours. For the Tea Layered Earl Grey Neroli x Shiso Mint (SGD $9), the Earl Grey Neroli lends a crisp floral citrus earthy flavour, while the Shiso Mint lends a bright earthy herbal flavour. The resulting brew is bright and refreshing, yet aromatic and complex in its duality of comforting zen.

The original signature Vanilla Mille Crepe Cake (SGD $9.50) remains as good as ever. No less than 20 sheets of paper thin handmade crepes are layered with light pastry cream, and neatly stacked to form this delicate dessert. Bite into the soft, moist, creamy, slightly spongy mille crepe cake, and you'll be rewarded with a lovely floral sweet milky flavour. So delicious. Highly recommended!

The Salted Caramel Mille Crepe Cake (SGD $9.50) features 20 sheets of paper thin handmade crepes layered with salted caramel pastry cream, topped with salted caramel glaze and studded with cocoa nibs. The latter lends a light crunch to texture, while the sticky thick richly textured salted caramel lends a bold salty sweet flavour. Intense and decadent. Good!

The Rose Mille Crepe Cake (SGD $9.50) features 20 sheets of paper thin handmade crepes layered with rose water infused pastry cream, garnished with rose jelly and edible flowers. I was a little disappointed that they ran out of rose petals, and replaced them with orchid petals instead. The jelly is wobbly soft, while the cake retains its usual soft moist creamy spongy texture. Nice bright floral sweet flavour that is delicately balanced. Worth ordering!

The Yuzu Cheesecake (SGD $9.50) features a light airy cream cheese vanilla sponge cake, studded with chewy bits of yuzu peel, and finished with a dollop of creamy yuzu puree. This rich dessert cake has a bright citrus tangy zesty sour sweet milky flavour. A little on the soft side, I would have liked it more dense with a creamy texture instead. Could be improved.

The Strawberry Shortcake (SGD $9.50) features a light airy vanilla sponge cake, layered with creamy light whipped cream, studded with chunks of juicy strawberries. This dessert cake has an enticing fruity sweet milky flavour. Its lightness on the palate means one can easily finish it off. Good!

The Checkers Cake (SGD $9.50) features a light airy sponge cake that alternates between squares of chocolate and vanilla, layered with creamy light whipped cream, coated in a blanket of luscious, silky smooth chocolate ganache. This dessert cake has an enticing chocolatey bitter sweet floral flavour. Its lightness on the palate means one can easily finish it off. Good!

Original Post, Oct-2013: The hottest new dessert place of September / October 2013 in Singapore is famed New York cake boutique, Lady M Confections. Well known for their delicate yet decadent cakes and pastries handmade daily using only the freshest high quality ingredients, Lady M Confections has been drawing long queues. You know Lady M Confections is good when you see people from all walks of life just waiting to get it, from yuppies to suits, kids to the elderly.

Ambience at Lady M Confections revolves around an open concept area that is non-descript in shades of white and grey. Furniture is little more than functional pieces, able to be moved around to suit the crowds, and the only decor to speak of is the elaborate Lady M Confections signage, and a fake plastic plant that adorns each table. But the open counter where their famous cakes and pastries are displayed is attractive in itself.

Service at Lady M Confections is pretty good. While staff are relatively young, they move fast, and are somewhat observant. You'll have to actually wave to attract their attentions sometimes during peak periods (which is nearly all the time), but they're polite, and knowledgeable about the menu. Takeaways are quite easy and convenient as well, though there isn't a separate queue or counter for takeaway, which I found odd, as it may get messy if many people place takeaway orders.

Food at Lady M Confections is all about desserts, namely their cakes. Expect generous sized slices of cakes / confections, with sweet, decadent, full-bodied taste and flavour, and reasonable prices comparable to most other mid-range cafes. The menu in Lady M Confections for Singapore is limited as compared to their headquarters in New York, United States Of America, having at least 1/3 less variety. Still, what is available here is extremely good, and repeat visits to try the various items on the menu at Lady M Confections is recommended. Or you could just order takeaway. A slice costs about SGD $9, while a whole 6-inch cake (6 slices) costs about SGD $42.

My only unhappiness / complaint with Lady M Confections, is when they're trying to produce their cakes to meet peak period demand... The presentation of the cakes wind up looking extremely sloppy and unprofessional. Hopefully, this would improve with practice. Fortunately, the cakes still retain excellent taste despite looking 'rushed'.

The bustling but rather plain interior here is nearly always full, expect to queue for at least 10 - 20 minutes.

The signature Vanilla Mille Crepes features 20 paper thin handmade crepes, layered with light, airy, almost ethereal pastry cream, and a caramelised golden coat. Extremely delicate and decadent, the Vanilla Mille Crepes simply melt away in your mouth, with a subtle, non-overpowering sweet note at the end. If you only eat 1 thing here, go for the Vanilla Mille Crepes!

The Gateau Nuage means 'Cloud Cake', and is an apt description for this airy whipped cheesecake on a cinnamon infused, crumbly graham cracker crust. Topped with a thin layer of sweet cream, the Gateau Nuage is silky, smooth, and light... Perfect as a cheesecake!

The Strawberry Shortcake features a vanilla infused sponge cake, made using a fine flour imported from Japan, and studded with fresh strawberries and whipped cream. The resulting Strawberry Shortcake is light, with bursts of sweet flavour from the strawberries, and is easily one of the best versions of Strawberry Shortcake I've had in Singapore. The cream is slightly thick on the end though.

Considered to be the second most popular item, the Banana Mille Feuille has a flaky golden puff pastry, which encloses layers of vanilla infused sponge cake, cream whipped with triple sec alcohol, and studded with slices of ripe bananas. The outer crust of the Banana Mille Feuille shatters as you cut into it, and tastes light, full-bodied and flavourful, thanks to the combination of vanilla and banana.

The Camomile Tea, just like their other drinks, are simply an accompaniment to their stars (cakes). Rather standard offerings, with good flavour, but not an attraction in themselves.
